With Election Day nearing, you’re probably busy writing field plans, raising money and mobilizing volunteers. One thing you shouldn’t leave out of your September agenda is focusing on growing your SMS list.
Growing your text list now means more direct contact with voters, volunteers and supporters. Whether you’re a national campaign or running for local office, you can grow your list significantly following a few best practices:
- Promote your keyword! This sounds silly but you probably have tons of untapped resources to promote your keyword. Yard signs, stickers, clipboards, door hangers, banners, campaign buses, posters in your field offices, TV and radio ads, t-shirts and plenty of other campaign materials are perfect for adding a text CTA. Don’t waste these spaces when you’re printing materials.
- Use your best assets. If you’ve got a candidate, have them promote the keyword at speeches and rallies. If you have spokespeople and representatives on TV, have them say it. Have a big email list? Convert them to text. All of these people are invested in your success and are more valuable as text subscribers than email.
- Be creative. You’re fighting for the attention, dollars, and time of voters and texting is the best way to get them. Try interesting giveaways and contests, experiment with email subject lines and asks, or offer special rewards for SMS subscribers.
